hmm. I actually saw The Brown Bunny and sort of liked it and understood kung bakit sya possibly napili to compete in Cannes. But I'm not going to see it again. Maybe Kinatay is the same; haven't seen it but maybe it shows something that has not been shown before, however repulsive or disgusting. Parang Salo ni Pasolini, which I really admire not because I'm a perv, but because it set out to show horrific things, like an expose or a thesis on something truly objectionable, and succeeded in doing just that. Not to say that Mendoza is the next Pasolini or anything.

That's a feather in Mendoza's cap. I actually enjoyed what work I've seen that he's done in Foster Child and Tirador. Hopefully this win will turn the international market's eye and open the floodgates for access to more Pinoy indie films. I'd like to hope that this would be the start of a snowball effect similar to what South Korea experienced in the film world in the early part of this decade.

Great that he won. Validates the talent. I do wish though that he does not stick to the glum and dire topics he has for movies. Pornographic na rin kasi. If he wants to stick with the 'realism' maybe he should just do documentaries.
