Last thing
Most of you are probably too young to understand why Filipinos aged 35 and above are disconsolate at losing Tita Cory. To you the Edsa Revolution is a distant historical event, an item on an exam. To old people like me who were in college at the time it was the greatest thing that had ever happened, and the best part was that we were in it.

I’m 26, but I’m really sad with Cory’s passing. I was only 3 when the first EDSA revolution happened.
I was talking to a friend last night, who’s already 30, and I told her I was depressed with what happened to the late president, and she said “Really, how come?”.

Thanks for a good read. It’s one of the most poignant essays about Cory and EDSA that didn’t succumb to hyperbole and idolatry.
But, please, no essays about the four honor guards of Cory. The medals, promotions, and P25,000 are more than enough recognition for a job well done. If there’s a reality TV show for the (underpaid) valiant soldiers who are out there fighting the insurgents and terrorists in Mindanao, the regular folks just might have a better perspective of honor and duty.

One of the best pieces about Cory’s passing. Balanced; hindi emo, hindi hysterical. Apt for your Star collumn’s name. An A++ for the Queen of Mean.

it’s not that I don’t care about her…
it’s just that she’s become less of a person and more of a… meme…
people causing a big ruckus in the streets over some infringement or whatnot, invoking her memory for some validation… I dunno… kinda like Jesus, I suppose
I’d say, hers is a bygone era. Let’s find living heroes in our own time that we can cling onto. We got a pretty lame selection for now, but I’m sure somebody cool will show up, one of these days.

feels weird, I wasn’t even born yet when People Power took place and I never even knew what it’s like when she was president but for some unknown reason, I was in line for seven hours just to see her remains..
