This week: Moleskine (left) vs. Ciak (right)
The Ciak sketch book is not a ripoff but a competitor to the Moleskine. It has heavier paper and a horizontal elastic enclosure.
The soft leather cover has a little notch on the side for the elastic. Ciak doesn’t have the expandable pocket on the inside back cover. It has a cloth bookmark. The paper is more suited to drawing than writing, but if you’re into calligraphy or penmanship you can’t complain.
Ciak is more expensive and harder to find than the Moleskine. If you think Moleskine is too mainstream and you want something slightly different, get a Ciak.

Hi Jessica,
Where can I buy Moleskines here in Manila? I think my usual shopping places are too mainstream because I haven’t been able to find them anywhere…

Moleskine is available at National Bookstores. Can’t get more mainstream than that.

I spent an hour at the main NBS branch in Cubao earlier today but I didn’t see any Moleskines displayed on their shelves. Will try again tomorrow. Thanks :D

My apologies: apparently they’re available at selected NBS branches. The Rockwell branch has tons, and I’ve seen them at NBS Greenbelt 1, Glorietta 1, and Glorietta 5. They’re also available at Fully Booked.
