Missing Jeff Buckley
Been listening to Jeff Buckley a lot. Wonderful singer-songwriter. Then I find that a movie biopic is being planned, and that Robert Pattinson and James Franco are among the actors being considered to play Jeff.

Something’s going on. Before this post went online Brewhuh emailed to say the next STET would feature. . .Jeff Buckley. And her friends have been tweeting about the late singer. At least I know my thoughts will not kill this time.

Nothing against him but, wag naman sana si Robert Pattinson! Brad Pitt was said to be planning a biopic starring himself but Jeff’s stage mother mom was allegedly against the idea.

Agreed. Grace is one of those albums that I can put on an endless loop and never get tired of it – and oddly enough, much better now that I’m older than it was when I was in college and listened to “Last Goodbye” ad nauseam. Still kicking myself over not getting Sketches (For My Sweetheart The Drunk), now that I think of it.
(Also, I still think that JB’s cover of Cohen’s “Hallelujah” is the definitive version of that song. Though I also believe that it’s up there with “Every Breath You Take” in the list of songs most likely to be understood as “senti” by clueless folks.)
The thought of RPattz playing Jeff Buckley, on the other hand? NO.

Actually, RPattz is a big fan of Jeff Buckley, may be that’s why he wanted to have the role. I think if he really does idolize JB he should be aware that he doesn’t have the acting prowess to portray one of the musical geniuses of the 90’s.

RPatz as Jeff Buckley? Oh puh-leez! Surely, we’ve got more capable and deserving actors around, no?

Oh yeah. I got Grace and Sketches for the holidays :) Morning Theft and Lover, You Should’ve Come Over are a couple of my faves.
What’s STET though?

I would recommend tracking down the Legacy Edition version of Live At Sin-e. Jeff shows his versatility as a singer and a musician in this set. All he has is his voice and that Telecaster as he goes through his originals and a wide variety of covers. You can tell that his music tastes were all over the map and included Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Led Zeppelin, Nina Simone, and Duane Eddy in the mix. The rawness of the live recording really makes his solo guitar playing shine.

@ sad_ism: Spot The Evil Twin. It’s the new feature in this blog. It shows you are not reading lately. Peace!

Ugh! I’ll take James Franco over Robert Pattinson any day.
