Matt Damon is even smarter than we thought.
This is not an exaggeration: the Bourne trilogy changed the face of action movies. They cut the fat out of the big-budget action flick and streamlined it for the audience whose patience was being shortened by the Internet (The Bourne Identity came out in 2002).
They also changed the whole notion of “action star”. Prior to Bourne, action stars were usually muscle-bound, rather…limited actors of the Stallone-Schwarzenegger school (They are now retro, as in The Expendables). The role of Robert Ludlum’s amnesiac secret agent went to Matt Damon, an acclaimed dramatic actor. Damon and Bourne were the perfect match: Damon became one of the biggest stars on the planet, and Bourne gained a critical reputation that was usually denied action flicks. Critics were forced to take action movies seriously.

P.S. No one wanted to come to the premiere with us because the invitation specified formal attire and we didn’t want to go alone in case we got a relapse so we brought the one person we know who will never decline an opportunity to wear a gown: our cross-dressing guy friend.
Unfortunately the gown wouldn’t zip up so he wore a little black dress and snakeskin shoes with 3-inch heels.

so Matt Damon was right to say no to being Bourne again.

I was on Twitter yesterday when the #RejectedUPCATessayquestions meme went viral, and the first thought that came to my mind was “On a scale of 1 to 5, rate your suspension of disbelief over the latest trailer for Bourne Legacy. Justify your answer in 1000 words or less.”
Not that it’s going to stop me from watching it, though.

Rimshot!
Smart = If the movie under-performs Matt Damon can name his price to come back and save the franchise.

Watch it! Your boyfriend/girlfriend looks good; hope that if there’s disappointment it won’t be blamed on his ability to “carry” a movie. He carried Hurt Locker very well. Then again that was Bigelow.

“(To understand the Pinoys’ excitement at hearing Tagalog in a Hollywood movie, consider that in Michael Bay’s The Rock, when agents chased their quarry across a San Francisco kitchen and a cook yelled “P!@#$%^&*mo!”, we cheered.)”

Reminds me of “Constantine” (the DC/Vertigo classic butchered with the help of a certainly-not-British, certainly-not-Sting-looking Keanu Reeves)… when the possessed girl starts cursing in Tagalog..

Because Tagalog is the language spoken in hell??

“Boyfriend/girlfriend” HAHAHAHA! In my mind palace we both get to take turns with Colin Farrell on alternate weekends.

Apparently! :)
Seriously, though, if I recall correctly, the possessed girl was Pinay-looking, so I guess she was Pinay.

Finally got to see Bourne Legacy today (had wanted to see it on opening day, but Mr. Habagat stopped me). It was okay as an action flick but lacked… meat? Plus it was “bitin.” It might as well have been titled “The Bourne Escape.” Still, I found myself enjoying it: for Jeremy (marry me), for Rachel (always liked her), and for the Manila scenes.
It’s nice to know that, even in the Bourne universe, Manila is still the #1 outsourcing destination… even for highly-sensitive biochemical activity involving viruses and secret agents! Yay, Manila BPO industry!
Also, the Bourne universe apparently has wormholes, allowing for a rooftop foot chase to go from Navotas to the Pasay/Taft overpass in minutes. Then the foot chase segues into a car chase that goes from Pasay/Taft to Escolta. Tapos, aminin, pagtalon ng motor sa Escolta, ang exit ay Marikina! :) Sana may ganoong paraan sa tunay na buhay para iwas-traffic.

Can’t wait for the DVD! I was waiting for Edward Norton’s scenes in Manila :(
